It was a good Saturday morning for Martin O’Grady and Donagh Claffey of Athlone Boat Club who progressed to Sunday’s finals at the Jr World Rowing Championship in Bulgaria.
Both Martin and Donagh continue to represent Athlone Boat Club with distinction on the world stage and everyone at the club is very proud of them. Their parents are with them at this event and the lads have great support from the sidelines to push them at each race.
Club president Paul Donovan stated “It’s unbelievable stuff from both crews and also to think that they are our lads. We are all beyond proud of them”.
Martin, Donagh and all the other Irish rowers have just provided Irish Rowing with another great positive review on the world stage. Many young rowers and children will be watching and waiting for their opportunity to be Ireland’s next rowing star, this achievement so far will have people contacting their local rowing club to seek membership. Rowing is truly on the map after these great performances and rowing will be viewed by many as one of Ireland’s best sports.
