Club History

Founded in 1837 Athlone Boat Club is one of the oldest rowing clubs in Ireland. The club is steeped in tradition and has played a leading role in the sporting history of the town. We are located on the banks of the River Shannon beside Custume Barracks.

Our club caters for oarsmen and oarswomen of all ages from Junior to master’s and has a proud history at National and International level.

The club has grown steadily in the past number of years with rowing for all ages located in the heart of Athlone and at Coosan Point. With our new state of the art rowing facilities and equipment the club continues to succeed.

In the last new of years the club has shown its strong commitment to developing rowers who have represented Ireland on the international stage.

As we continue to develop our club we also look to continue our community aspect to the club with our facilities being used by many groups throughout the town for meetings, trainings and events.
